Welcome to Vetegrity Snapshots, a new series where we highlight the people powering Vetegrity’s mission every day. First up: meet Ashley Murphy, an AutoCAD drafter in our Denver office whose precision and perseverance help keep facilities running smoothly.
You’ve been with Vetegrity for six years now—what first brought you here, and what made you stay?
My dad actually told me about the open CAD position. What first enticed me about working with Vetegrity was better benefits and steadier pay than my previous position. I stayed because of the great PTO and some of the additional perks but more so, the leadership, my team, and the company has been so rewarding to work with. The work life balance has been something that I had been searching for and truly appreciate.
AutoCAD for government work is no small task. What was it like adjusting to the standards and expectations in the federal space?
It was definitely a change and learning curve for me. James has been an excellent boss and teacher the whole time. He has been incredibly patient with me and I feel less intimidated by the standards and expectations due to his clarification and demonstrations.
Your background is in interior design. How has that shaped the way you approach your work with government customers?
Interior design was high paced and demanding, so I do feel that those skills have helped me in the government space.
What’s it like working from the Denver office with a smaller team? How does that impact your day-to-day?
I think that the small team is beneficial because we are easily accessible. It makes it simpler to communicate and get things accomplished. We work well together and are a tight knit group.
You’ve mentioned growth—both in your own skill set and across the company. What are you most excited about in Vetegrity’s future?
It has been rewarding to be with Vetegrity long enough to see the changes and growth. I think that Mark has done an excellent job in staying true to the values and principles that Vetegrity was founded on. I am excited to see the changes that Mark and Sean have implemented with the new leadership, merges, and upcoming goals for 2.0.
The word “grit” is literally in Vetegrity’s name. Tell us about a time when you really experienced the power of grit in your own life or at work.
This is a hard one. I don’t know if this is a direct answer but we do on-site visits that require us to be in some interesting spaces to get measurements and information. We are up on roofs, down in spider-ey places, and I have even been accidentally locked in a room. But I do my best to get accurate information, so that our drawings reflect that. And it keeps the job interesting, for sure!
When you’re not slingin’ pixels in AutoCAD, what are you doing for fun outside of work?
I enjoy spending time with my husband and family, lots of “granny” activities like crafting, redoing furniture, gardening, and trying to get my sourdough right. I also like spending time in nature & paddle boarding.
