The Pit Stop is your chance to gain expert perspectives from our teams on the track! Today, hear from Founder & CTO Mark Feffer on the power of technology and his transition to the CTO role.
As Founder, what excites you most about focusing fully on the CTO role?
I’m looking forward to devoting my full attention to innovation and the technical direction of the company. For many years I balanced company leadership with technology strategy. Now I can focus entirely on advancing our technical capabilities, strengthening cybersecurity, and building solutions that more directly support mission readiness.
How has the technology landscape shifted since Vetegrity was founded?
When we started, modernization was largely about infrastructure and systems integration. Today it’s about speed, cybersecurity, data intelligence, and resilience in contested environments. The rapid acceleration of artificial intelligence and automation has raised expectations, increased the sophistication of threats, and dramatically accelerated the pace of change. Having a senior leader focused full-time on technology helps ensure we stay ahead of that curve.
What does technical leadership require in today’s defense environment?
It requires accountability, adaptability, and a deep understanding of mission impact. Technical leadership today must be grounded in operational realities. That means showing up every day, staying close to the details, and ensuring our technology decisions translate into real opportunities for our staff and real solutions for agency requirements.

Do you ever miss working on nuclear reactors in the Navy?
My time serving in Operations and Engineering during two deployments —including Desert Storm —aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) shaped much of how I lead today. Operating on a nuclear aircraft carrier, particularly in reactor spaces, required precision, coordination, and absolute accountability. Roles and responsibilities were clearly defined, and compliance with standards was non-negotiable. While I don’t miss the long deployments, I value the experience deeply and remain proud of what our crews accomplished.
What does this transition allow you to concentrate on more deeply?
This transition allows me to focus more deeply on architecture, technical direction, emerging technologies, and mentoring our teams. With experienced executive leadership driving company operations, I can invest my energy in building durable, mission-critical technology solutions that create long-term value for the company and our customers.
What are you most excited about looking ahead to the future?
I’m excited about scaling our impact, our capabilities, and our talent. With a strengthened leadership structure and clear operational focus, we’re positioned to move faster, innovate more effectively, and deliver even greater results for our customers.
